Jacques: The Lord of the Watch
Jacques Sollberger was born in Solothurn, Switzerland, in 1960. He attended watchmaking school in Solothurn from 1976-1979. When he graduated, Jacques was awarded the title of “Uhrmacher-Rhabilleur”. When Jacques completed his military commitment, he moved to the United States and from 1980-1983, he worked for a jeweler in Cleveland, MS.
In 1984, he opened his first store in Pearl, MS, called Sollberger Watches & Clocks, Inc. He moved to the Village Mall in Ridgeland in 1989. Next, he spent 11years (1992-2003) at the Purple Creek Plaza on Countyline Rd.
In 1994, his wife, Edith, with her wealth of experience in jewelry sales, management and purchasing, joined him in business. In 2003, Jacques exhibited remarkable foresight and courage when he moved his successful enterprise to the Township, a fledgeling development on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Jacques was willing to make this move in spite of the naysayers who told him that he was crazy to leave Countyline Rd. Crazy maybe, but crazy like a fox.
Jacques and Edith expanded their offerings by adding jewelry and renaming the store Sollberger Watches, Clocks & Jewelry.

Multi-talented; multi-lingual
Born in France, but raised in Switzerland, Gabrielle Donato, gained a degree in interior design. She worked several years in this profession which took full advantage of her natural style and good taste. She moved to the United States 20 years ago and she came to Mississippi to complete her Bachelors in Architecture at MSU in Starkville.
During an Architectural project, she met and developed a friendship with Jacques and Edith. Gabrielle expressed a desire to move to Jackson from Gulfport. Shortly thereafter, the store was in need of clockmaker, so Gabrielle undertook the study and did her training under Jacques’ direction. The agreement was that she would help the store for a short period, that was over four years ago. With her design expertise,
Gabrielle creates the cases in the store. She also, designs custom jewelry.
In addition, her passion for architecture has not ceased. She, currently, has several projects on the MS Gulf Coast, Madison and Ridgeland.
